As far as I could recall, I had the apache.org binaries, so I tried the VC6 build and Apache crashed on startup with access violation. The dll worked despite 5.4.8 - 5.4.9 mismatch. I believe a new Apache installation will not overwrite the configuration files of the old one, it will put the new ones alongside the old. The Apache binaries from apache.org are only compiled with VC6, making it incompatible with the PHP binaries from windows.php.net. Sue, if you do not need PHP, try commenting it out from LoadModule section. That is not an error message.
