If you re-read that same exact byte stream into a character array but decode it as UTF-16BE, the first two elements will be \xEFBB \xBF?? This made the XMLParse giving an error.In coldfusion replaced all the < to < and it worked fine. Also, if you had two strings which started with BOM, and concatenated them together, you would be introducing a BOM into the middle of the string, where it does not belong in fact now that i reread the section on "Unicode Encoding Schemes", a BOM is always optional (though i swear it was required for utf-16/32 in earlier unicode versions), see: http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode5.0.0/ch03.pdf#G7404 Join & Ask a Question Need Help in Real-Time?

The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference. Maybe this could be a error page or some other html page you've been redirected to. So the Crystaltech tech stop and started the Coldfusion service on the Coldfusion box the sites were on and it started working again.
